On April 11, 2016, DSS participated in a meeting of the 30-member NATO Parliamentary Assembly. This was a meeting requested by the NATO delegation. The NATO group was chaired by Baroness Ramsay of Cartvale (British Labor MP). DSS Department Chair, Dr. Keith Payne, chaired the U.S. delegation which consisted of four DSS professors: Ambassador Robert Joseph, Dr. John Rose, Dr. Mark Schneider and Dr. Keith Payne, and two additional local U.S. experts. Simultaneous translation was provided by the NATO delegation's interpreters. The NATO delegation included MPs from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Estonia, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, Norway, Netherlands, Croatia, Greece, and Slovenia. Our subject was "Russia's Nuclear Strategy and NATO Security." Members of the US delegation gave testimony for approximately 10 minutes each, followed by about two hours of Q and A. The session went about 30 minutes beyond the scheduled two hours, at the request of the NATO delegation. There were many very positive remarks from the NATO delegation for the meeting, including a comment from NATO members that the meeting could have gone on all day given their keen interest.
